Basic introductory course

The course normally lasts up to 3 hours. Price per course is typically £35, depending on numbers and materials used.
Please see course bookings for details.

A wide selection of beads and findings are included in the price. Semi-precious gemstones and precious metals are not used in this course.

The object of the course is to design and make your own piece of wearable jewellery.

We will discuss some basic design styles and look at examples of our own personal jewellery, which you will be able to handle, examine and discuss.

You will be given a guide to basic bead stringing, the types of thread, the handle and hang of each type, where to use them, followed by an introduction to the most useful findings. You will be encouraged to handle each item shown.

Basic tools and techniques will be shown, explained and demonstrated. Plenty of time to practise using these tools will be given.

You will then be invited to choose your beads and encouraged to start experimenting with your selection. Whenever necessary please ask for help with any aspect of jewellery making or design.

You will have the opportunity to make either a necklace, bracelet, anklet or earrings. Should you finish and there is time, you may choose to make a second different piece of jewellery.

Please read the safety notes at the bottom of this page before booking a course.

The course lasts up to 3 hours. Price per course will vary, depending on the materials and components used. Please see course bookings for details.

This course is for those who have some experience of beading and would like to design a matching set of items, or make a more intricate piece of jewellery.

Semi-precious gemstones and pearls will be provided to use in conjunction with other materials and findings

If you want special feature gemstones and beads for your design, we will have a selection with us.

The course will entail a guide to threads and their most effective use, a wider range of tools, some more intricate findings and dealing with knotting and other useful techniques. We will also deal with neat finishing of your piece. Wirework will not be dealt with in this course.

Design ideas and scaling your pieces will be discussed. The course will last up to 3 hours.

Examples of our own personal jewellery will be available to handle and discuss, and a limited amount of designed for you jewellery will be on sale.

If there is anything you are particularly interested in making or learning about, please discuss this with us at booking time. If you would like us to bring some sterling silver or gold beads or findings, please notify us.
